Watching the world pass by

I have always had a thing for flying. The first thing that hooked me as a young girl was the free drinks though; soda was always a rarity at my house so to have someone come buy and offer me a 'free' soda of my choice, of course I was going to be into it! But now as I fly over southern Washington on my way home from my cousin Taylor's wedding, in realizing what a truly love is watching the world go by beneath me. Exploring the world from a bird's eye view. I'm realizing now that I don't read or sleep, but I stare. Stare and wonder at the landscape that is creeping by below me and the people who inhabit these places. This is their life, so different from mine. To see these bug like vehicles going on their sweet little way carrying such precious and unique cargo. I like to think about the endless variations of this life and where all these tiny people below me have been taken by their individual path.

Flying always seems to end up being a time of deep thinking for me as well as marveling over not just the individuals I this world but also the incredible landscape. The variety this world has to offer is astounding when you take a second to think about it. One evening while flying there was a particularly bright moon out which seemed so clear and crisp in the deep blue night sky and that wasn't even the cool part. I was watching a small town pass by with its little lights aglow tucked into the trees when the moonlight hit a small body of water. As we continued to move forward, the light of the moon on the water created such a gentle dusting of grey over the surface and a concentrated glow right along the shoreline. It was so beautiful to me to watch this small lake hidden by the veil if nighttime being brought to life as the moon sailed over the outline catching each tiny outcropping.

So I guess what comes out of this is on occasion it's amazing to me to get to sit back and watch as this life passes by. To observe the magnificent beauty on this each and to wonder at all those who inhabit it. It seems to do something good for the soul.
